Holiday Chaos!!!

Between our daily lives, and the many things the girls wanted to do this past Christmas season, life quickly became chaos. Still, we managed to have a blast and we were able to bring a little bit of warmth to the people in the nursing homes that we caroled at. I wanted to say thank you for everyone who was able to make it out to one or more of the events despite the craziness of the holidays.

And now, for the pics!

The girls sang at the Carolina House Alzheimer's ward.

And at Woodland Hills we went room to room handing out Christmas cheer.

Our second annual Christmas party was a blast!!!

And a video of a taste of the chaos when you get all the girls together with endless candy...

Awesome Job at the CUOC

The girls did a wonderful job tonight at the CUOC. Not only were we able to stock the food that we brought in, but about three mail carts full of other food that needed to be put on the shelves. We also learned that the CUOC gives out between 3000 and 3500 pounds of food each day. Now that's a lot of food!

Service Project Meeting at the CUOC

Our next meeting will be held at the Asheboro Christian's United Outreach Center on Sunset avenue. We will be meeting at the same time as usual, just at a different place. Instead of just donating the food that we have collected, the CUOC will allow the girls to actually help organize the food and stock the shelves of the food pantry. Not only will this serve as a service project, but it will help the girls see just how this organization gets out and helps the less fortunate in the community.

Parents are asked to drop the girls off in the parking lot behind the building, which runs along the railroad tracks off of Sunset avenue. We will spend our entire meeting at the CUOC with the chance of a possible stargazing lesson near the end of our meeting.

Thanks again for all the hard work you all do. I know the CUOC will appreciate the food that everyone has gathered to donate.

This Week's Activities

The parade was a great success and I think the girls really did enjoy marching even if some of them were very busy handing out candy. Each of them listened to the rule about not throwing candy, so I am very proud of them!

This coming weekend we will be taking our food donations to the CUOC. It is alright to bring any food that has been collected to the meeting tomorrow. We will be getting together to make the actual delivery, though the details on that are still coming as their hours have changed since I was last there. Watch your email!

Don't forget the events that are quickly coming. Horseback riding will be on Dec 3rd, and we will have our next meeting on the 6th.

Remember, if you have any questions or thoughts, please don't hesitate to contact Wendy or Missie!

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it is important to look at how much we each have to be thankful for. And while we are being thankful, the girls have decided to help people in need by collecting food for the local food bank located at the Christian's United Outreach Center in Asheboro.

How it will work: The girls want to create flyers that they will distribute prior to collection day. This is highly based on the large scale food drive that the US Postal Service does each year, but instead of bags, our girls will be responsible for giving out up to 15 flyers. (These were decorated at the last meeting.)

The flyers will contain basic information about who we are and why we are collecting food. Each parent/daughter pair will be responsible for collecting the food from the people they handed flyers out to. While the official collection and delivery day is November 19th, parents are welcome to collect for their daughter at home until that day.

We would like as many girls as possible to meet on the 19th in order to deliver the food to the CUOC. If you are able to participate, the girls will need to meet in the parking lot of the CUOC (off sunset avenue) at 3:00 PM. This won't be a long activity, but it is important that the girls see the impact that they have.

Trick or Treating Fun!

We had fun last night eating pizza, chips, cookies, and going trick or treating together. Only a few showed up, but we had a blast anyways. It was nice to go around together; for both the girls and the parents!

Thanks to Wendy for allowing us to hold this event at her house.
