Event: Girl Scout Trick or Treating!

The girls wanted to get together and go trick or treating together this year. Wendy has offered her house as a meeting point, since it is right beside one of the most popular trick or treating places in Asheboro. This event is not a requirement by any means, but if you would like to join us, we will be meeting at 5:30 PM on the day of trick or treating (just in case it isn't held on the 31st) for a light pizza dinner.

After pizza, we will go out as a group to the neighborhood behind Wendy's house. Make sure that you come dressed up so that we can leave right after we eat!

Since there are going to be pizza's involved, please drop Wendy or Missie a quick email or IM to let them know if you will be coming.

Yard Sale Video!

It was a busy day, but I was able to get one short video of the girls being silly during a lull in customers. In the background, you will hear Becca explaining Legally Blonde to me... =)

** This is on youtube, but it is unlisted. You can only see it if you have the link (or come to this page).

The Yard Sale Was A Success!

While it looked like we wouldn’t have much at the beginning of the sale, things really did turn out well. I want to thank all of the girls that showed up to help; they did a great job handling money, greeting customers, counting change, and manning the baked goods table.

We sold tons of clothes and almost all of the baked goods! In all, we made over $130. The girls set a goal, worked it, and achieved it even though it looked like they might not at the beginning of the day. Congratulations to you all!

On a side note, I will upload pictures soon. I didn't get too many, but we do have something to document the day.

Parents – Please remember that we have a meeting this Tuesday at the church at 6:30 PM. Riding health forms and $15 MUST BE TURNED IN BY THIS MEETING!  The ranch requires the money and a set number of who will be attending well in advance. If we do not get this form and the money by this meeting, we will have to assume that your daughter will not be going. Please remember; once the number is turned in, there is no way to change it!

Thanks again for all of the help and for sharing your girls with us on this Saturday. It was a lot of fun and they really did do a great job with everything.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or comments. See you all on Tuesday!

Journey Chosen!

At the last meeting, the girls discussed the three choices they had for their Journey this year. While some of the girls wanted to go with the artsy route, more girls supported 'Get Moving'.

As this is a collaborative effort, the girls discussed how to incorporate artsy stuff into the Get Moving journey so that everyone would be able to have something that they would enjoy. After another short discussion, this was the final decision and the girls seemed to be very excited about it.

Journey books are available online at the Girl Scout Store : https://www.girlscoutsp2p.org/catalog/productDetail.php?product_id=b935dd2a-0249-f407-da3d-4b44bb246ed0&cid=24

The cost is $7.00, and the store does ship if you want to purchase it online. We will have some shared troop books, but if you want one for yourself at home, you can speak with Lisa or go to the link above.

Remember, if you have any questions or comments, please contact Missie at starlitwonder@hotmail.com or by calling her.

Fundraiser: Yard Sale on October 15th

On October 15th, starting at 7 AM, we will be holding a yard sale and bake sale at Wendy's house to raise funds for future events that the girls want to participate in. 100% of the funds will be put towards troop expenses.

We will be accepting any donations for the sale at the October 4th meeting. If you forget, or if you find other things you wish to donate for us to sell, you can also contact Wendy or Marissa to schedule a pickup. Baked items should be dropped off (hopefully with your daughter!) the morning of the sale. Anything is welcome!

The girls will be running the show, so be sure to consider dropping them by to man the cash box or the bake sale table for a few hours. Contact Wendy or Marissa if you have any questions or if you want to help and need some assistance.

Let's make this a great kickoff to the new year!!

Our Next Meeting: October 4th

Join us for our next regular meeting at the church on October 4th at 6:30 to 8:00 PM.

We will be working on choosing one of the three Junior Journeys to work on this year. There are three to choose from:

o   Agent of Change – This journey focuses on how to be the change in the world that the girls want to see. Heavy community based learning led by Dez the fashionista spider helps girls see women in history who have created substantial changes that have ‘snowballed’ to become something much bigger than themselves.
o   Get Moving – This journey focuses on the environment and how we can conserve energy while meeting ‘energizing’ women throughout the community who have used innovation and imagination to tackle some of today’s most complex problems. Heavy concentration in energy/power conservation, efficiency, and innovation.
o   aMuse – This journey focuses on the arts; namely media literacy and appropriate expression of creativity. Throughout the completion of this journey, girls will engage in various different ‘arts’ including performing, visual, culinary, music, and media with the goal of ‘telling their story’ and helping to make the world a better place by exploring some of the roles that are available to them in the world today.

The girls will be choosing the one that they want to accomplish as they work towards the completion of their Bronze Award during their two years as Junior Girl Scouts.

We will also be working on getting things ready for our yard sale, which will be held on October 15th starting at 7 AM.

Stay tuned right here for more news!

Parents Meeting

Thanks to all of the parents that were able to make it to the parent's meeting today. We discussed a number of things, including events and fundraisers, the journey program, and how to help the girls become a cohesive group that will work together as they take ownership of their troop.

We also added a few things to the calendar, which will be reflected in the calendar on the sidebar of this page.

A big thanks to Joan Sloyan for allowing us to use the clubhouse for the meeting! (And for the cookies!)

Remember, if you have any questions or comments, don't hesitate to ask!
